  Spybot, much like Lavasoft's Ad-Aware, is software that can be used to clean your computer of spyware and other harmful files.

• If I have Ad-Aware, should I get this program as well?

  Lavasoft's Ad-Aware, and Spybot Search & Destroy both work to find spyware and other malicious code on your computer. Since they are made by two independent sources, each program is able to search a bit differently than the other. The best way to keep your computer clean is actually to use Spybot S & D in conjuction with Ad-Aware.

• How do I get Spybot Search & Destroy?

  Spybot S & D can be downloaded from its website at http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html. Follow the links to download the proper version of the program for your operating system.

Steps to download and use Spybot S & D:

1. The makers of Spybot have actually provided us with a tutorial that covers the download, installation, and initial use of their program. This tutorial can be found here, or off of the 'Tutorial' link on their home page.
2. After learning to set up and use Spybot, it's important to remember to check for updates and scan once a week. Each time you run your scan, make sure to check for new updates -- the procedure for this can be found here.
